- as described by Matthew Parris on R4 just now debating the PLA's swimming ban which comes in to effect today. Suggested it was the thin end of the wedge and predicted that a small (unpowered) craft ban would be next. Vigorously rejected by Head of PLA who said they wanted more boats on the tideway and were doing everything to encourage that.

Hmmnn. Me thinks he might be a tad disingenuous with that assertion.

Lets be fair, the PLA is seemingly on a mission to remove non-commercial traffic from the Thames and given the ridiculous certification criteria for exceeding 12 knots under the new byelaws, they will shortly have succeeded at least in removing 1 leisure vessel from the water!

How will they remove non commercial traffic ?

How will narrowboats transit to Limehouse ?

How will Thames based boats transit to the estuary ?

Will they install a teleporter at Teddington ?

Surely by now you have learnt that most of my comments should not be taken at 100% face value :-)

Obviously they will never completely achieve this and probably aren't trying to. I am merely saying their approach makes it appear that they are attempting to do this.
