Still the old 2011 version is on their web site, but today I received my copy of the all new, all shiny 2012 version in the post today.
New version pretty much identical to the (already very brilliant!) old version, from what I can see. One significant change, of course - speed limits.
Now, contrary to what we had all been expecting, a new mandatory 12 knot speed limit from Wansworth Bridge down to Margaret Ness is NOT shown on the new guide. Instead, Wandsworth to Lambeth is now depicted as having NO RESTRICTIONS, though the previously 12 knot recommended limit is now truned mandatory between Lambeth Bridge and Hermitage Wharf. The old speed boat and rib playground, unrestricted between Hermitage Wharf and the Barrier Control Zone actually appears to still be in place.
I'm not suggesting anyone actually put this to the test! Far from it, just an observation. I wonder now what the PLA's position will be on speed limits (nothwithstanding all the usual caveats about wake, ferries and piers, workers on bridges, peirs and the shoreline etc.)...
That is quite interesting, I received an e-mail from the Department of Transport on 18th May 2012 implying no decision had been made on the subject of speed limits, is there a date printed on the guide by chance? The PLA advised nothing had been decided on 14th May, but of course thats not to say they were necessarily aware of the Department for Transport's stance at this stage.
An opportunity for a bit of investigating and editorial comment by MBM next month, maybe? PLA see, to,be rather tight-lipped on the subject, perhaps understandably if they have not yet managed to formalise their intentions. But I'm sure the nice chaps at MBM could loosen a few tongues..
