CPD - 4 children, BUT we are due to fly to Bulgaria on the 6th therefore, whilst it will of course be possible to sail our good ship round the coast to be present, there will be no time to make the return journey (by said ship), before said flight. THEREFORE ...... rough plan at the moment is to drive () to "Treasure Island" and make use of any spare bunk capacity, before driving () to Luton () airport .......... OR ........ we sail our fine vessel, and beg, borrow, or plunder () a mooring for what will be a month(ish) until the return (to our fine south coast) can be made. The Pipedream II Scallywags shall be consulted in the coming days, although lashings of rum will undoubtedly prevent an instantaneous response. Watch therefore .................... this space ........... +1.

Dear Pirates...

We have had an email from Pete from the Walton and Frinton yacht club (see below) - Pete has offered some good local knowledge regarding strong eddies which can form at the top end of stone point. Also, there is a request if we can be mindful when we moor up to allow dingies to be able to pass us all ok.

I said I would pass on his email so we were all aware...

Dear Ian

I am the Captain of the Walton & Frinton Yacht Club and have been watching with interest the build up to the 'Pirate' event at Stone Point on August 4th. I am pleased to see you are getting an excellent response.

You may or may not know, that WFYC is responsible for Stone Point and its use, and we have no problems with your event going ahead as planned. However, our concern is the number of proposed vessels that are going to be moored in the area this year. In this regard can you ask your members to watch their swings when mooring so as to avoid restricting the main navigation channel. With other vessels possibly mooring in the area there may be congestion problems.

The week you are there is also our club's Open Week so there may be a load of sailing dinghies in the area.

Also, be aware that strong eddies are now forming towards the top end of Stone Point and would advise that everyone avoids using this area, except for access.

Sorry if this sounds a bit heavy, as the last thing I want to do is put any form of dampener on the event. It is just to make you aware of possible problems.

Please refer to pilotage page on our website www.wfyc.co.uk for more information.

Regards

Pete

Hi Pete,

If you're reading this...

Rest assured that we always make a real effort to be considerate to other water users, especially the dinghies... If it gets too crowded, we'll, as in previous years, move a few boats round to Hamford water.

We are also very careful to make sure that we clean up carefully after ourselves... Our fire will be sensibly managed, and always below the HW mark.

Its a lovely place, and hopefully you'll appreciate that we're just as keen to keep it that way as the W&FYC members.

Thanks for your supportive words though!
