i've just finished watching a program on channel 38(Quest) freeview.
The subject was the patrolling by a Danish frigate in the Somalian and Gulf of Aden areas, in an anti-piracy role using a helicopter spotter plane and fast rib with about 10 fcrew fully armed. These people were not sitting on their hands as we are led to believe our guys have been.
They were identifying targets 100 miles away and pre-empting any boardings, and in one instance actually destroying the pirate craft and crew befor they could board a cargo/container ship. The whole setup looked very professional and up for the task. So,what are their terms of engagement that they can act and not our Navy?
Where they found no arms aboard they left the crew with fresh water, and protective gloves, quite a nice gesture I thought.

Shame with the Royal Navy you'll only hear about what they don't do.

I watched that too. I thought the Danish Navy were excellent and were certainly keeping their fingers on the button when it came to patrolling the waters. They also seemed incredibly decent giving those fishermen supplies as a sign of good will.

They certainly didn't muck about when a genuine threat was detected..
