Looking into why our heater isn't working still and pretty much all points to airlocks.

There is a 'newer' pipe and an 'older' pipe fitted, the older pipe looks larger in diameter BUT has a small hole in it in quite an awkward place. Basically the pipe needs replaced from tank to shut off valve.

We did manage to bodge this to try it and made a reduction pipe into the pump which is a smaller guage of pipe. Bled the system with a pump and it worked perfectly

So I'm curious - if we replace the piece with a hole in it - can i get some form of reducer? I seem to think its approx 8mm to 2mm at the pump

You need 2mm bore pipe from the tank to the pump and from the pump to the heater really, 8mm is way too big and can allow bubbles to form and drain back, so will work once primed but will fail after it has been stood a while. Larger bore pipe will sometimes work consistantly if there is a slight head but not if it has to lift the fuel.

Hmm. there is a 2mm pipe fitted throughout but we jsut couldnt get anything through it - the larger pipe was terminated by the pump so figured to try it.

will go and try and re prime that a bit harder i think.

If you can't get fuel through the 2mm and the pipe is not blocked or sucking in air somewhere then there is probably a bit of wear in the pump. Another possibility is that the pump is too far from the tank, they do not like pulling fuel beyond the specified parameters shown in the manual at all, in fact if you can get the pump really close to the tank they perform much better.
