Pipe cot

I want to install a pipe cot similar to the sort common on e.g. Rival yachts, which consisted of a canvas base attached at one side to an aluminium tube that dropped into chocks on the bulkheads fore and aft. My question is- what size-diameter and wall thickness would be suitable for the tube? I'm assuming it would need to be pretty sturdy, Any suggestions as to sourcing in SE London/Kent would also be welcome. Thanks

1 1/2" or 1 3/4" OD, 1/4" thickness Aluminium. Can't reccomend pipecots highly enough, much better than lee cloths and have never fallen out even when well heeled over in rough weather. Look at http://www.thealuminiumshop.co.uk/acatal...g_Grade_23.html for a stockist.

Happen to have one off my Rival in the 'boat room' at home. It measures 1in and 5/16 dia and is steel. The surface looks to be galvanised. It's got end caps that resist removal but by the weight it's either solid or thick walled tube.
