Pinmill - info required

A vacant mooring marked with Wards is probably a reasonable bet; there are a few with a 'visitor' label attached together with information about payment, but the best advice would be to ring Gus Curtis on Mobile: 07867 640650 who will be able to advise which are free.

Where are these mythical buoys with a visitor label? Jane and I scoured the moorings at Pin Mill for one last year and couldn't find one anywhere!

I'm not sure that there are dedicated visitors moorings now.
When I enquired last week I was directed to some vacant moorings which were much nearer the Royal Harwich than Pin Mill.
The nice lady explained that the £10 charged for overnight use goes to RNLI, so not much incentive for them to provide moorings for visitors.
It's still a great place to visit though.

I must confess that i was quoting the official line with regard to the labelled moorings; I haven't checked them personally. The last time I spoke to Gus about the issue, though, he did say that it wasn't cost effective to try to collect mooring fees so as Dantribe has said its done more on a utilitarian basis than commercial. Still worth a call, though, to find a mooring which is available rather than being awoken in the early hours by a tired and grumpy resident.

Alternatively, there's very good holding in deep water just inside the moorings to the south of the Foxes bottom buoy.

I've never seen the ones with visitor labels - we simply pick up a 'Ward' painted buoy and wait for him to come and pick up the fees in the morning. Sometimes he's there, sometimes he's not there, but we stick something into the RNLI pot if not. Last time it was £5 but didn't see him last year - has it gone up?

I've given up trying to pick up a mooring at pin mill... A couple of years ago you could get one....but I've only been able to get the occasional lunch stop for the past couple of years...

That may be because Gus is so good at letting the moorings. He has around 98% occupancy.
