hmm i suppose it depends on what your're doing. I mean I wouldn't choose to listen to "Careful With That Axe, Eugene" whilst steering between two supertankers, but maybe "Obscured by Clouds" might be quite nice while surfing down rollers with the boom lashed and nobody else on the horizon.
I will forever associate 'Shine on you crazy diamond' with a delivery I did from one end of the Med to the other when I was 21, just after it came out. That and 'Dixie chicken' by Little Feet were the only tapes we had.
Yeh, manys the time I've been setting of and that annoying little voice in my head says...."I've been mad for [--word removed--] years, absolutely years. I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the most of us have. Very hard to explain why you're mad, even if you're not mad"
Over the years I had lost touch with the great music that PF produced.
I was reintroduced in 1995 when sailing with a friend on his steel ketch in Malta, he went on to do an Atlantic circuit.
We were anchored up in a tight bay on Cimono, an Island between Gozo and Malta. The moon was up, with a glass of wine in my had I was driving the BBQ when Brian fired up Dark side of the Moon on his stereo. Magic!
Note to self: Must give the Pulse DVD a blast soon!
Had a very memorable broad reach this summer in F5 and a big swell, and was playing Dark side of the Moon at full volume..... when 'Breathe' came on... surfing at 10kts... well.... just pure magic!
We were listening to PF on the crossing from Fleetwood to Holyhead in April - dead still, thick eerie sea mist - perfect for Comfortably Numb and Great Gig.
I used to use that to get me up when I was a puppy and had to leave early to get to the smoke. A bit daft really.
Med moored in Vounaki a few years ago I could hear 'Wish you were here' from a neighbouring boat. I complained to the skipper and he kindly turned it up so I could hear it properly. Magic.
