I thought I read some time ago of ping pong balls being used in sea water strainers to confirm flow at a glance.

Has anyone done this? With the large Maestri strainers on my TAMD 75 i am a little cocearned that the ball could get in to the in flow pipe from the seacock and effecrively block it. Anyone got any ideas on this?

I have a practice golf ball on my cockpit drains to stop small items dropping down the hole. They let rain water through and float clear if a lot of water comes into the cockpit. Might they do for your purpose?

We used to do that on swimming pool pump strainers all the time

I vaguely remember there being a proper ball for it. A heavy duty ping pong ball in effect! Our centre had plenty of old ping pong balls so we used them. Never had any issues as the strainer basket holes are a lot smaller than the ball.
