PMSC had their open day on Sat so I thought I would pop in and see what they do, maybe if there is any reasonably active cruising group even join.

Got in dinghy and went ashore (onto pontoon as enough water) walked in with clean and dry shoes and with lifejacket over my shoulder and was asked (politely) if I was handing the lifejacket back which took me a bit by surprise and said no. Went to bar, got a pint of Adnams (only £2.80), slowly had a look at the blurb and the pictures in the dining room. Sat outside and enjoyed my pint in the sunshine.

What surprised me was there was no one who said to me, 'hello' or 'are you thinking of joining' or even 'get out'. Looked a nice club house but thought on an 'Open Day' there would be poeple on alert to look out for visitors / potential members?

Maybe I will try again in a few weeks just for a beer.

I was on stbd Sunday & gave way to a dinghy port as she approached the mark, nothing, no thank you, no hand gesture, no nothing. What are these people taught, certainly not manners

Getting more like the Solent! Whilst where possible I will avoid start / finish lines / turning points etc sometimes it is just not possible.

Can recall one Solent weekend years ago calling starboard to get the reply 'we are racing' as if it means the rules dont apply between racing and non racing boats. Almost choked on my coffee and bacon roll.
