Is there any chance that people posting pictures on the forum could reduce them in size? I for one am on a very slow internet connection ( not by choice) When someone posts a full size piccy, it slews the posts across and makes viewing difficult. I enjoy looking at whereisit and piccys of boats, but it is spoilt for me as I am sure for others as well. I am not able to enjoy posts and piccys as a result, it is not worth the effort. Any one else think the same? Not being arsey but a simple request thats all. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Understand your problem, but most now use broadband and thus prefer having decent size pictures. Suggest you consider setting your Explorer to reject the pictures.

Many of us use Photobucket as a means of getting photos onto YBW and that has the option to resize the picture. Clicking on Edit and then Re-size there are various options including a 640x480 specifically for forums like this, and smaller. That's what I've started to use. It may not solve your problem if us picture posters did this, but will help. It's very easy to assume we all have broadband these days.

Photobucket also lets you generate the code for a clickable thumbnail image - it might be an idea if more people used this.

As someone "guilty" /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif of posting large pics now and again, the reason is I don't edit my pictures - I am generally hot linking (??!) direct to something I found on the net.

But, I do appreciate that it can be frustrating for others - however the good news is that forum software can be had to automatically address this by making photo automatically into (still decent sized) thumbnails. (as seen elsewhere on da net).

Just seems that YBW.com has not gone down this route, for whatever reasons.........

Read the link I posted above. Petem gives a good reason not to do that, which is what I had asked about.

Does no-one follow links?

Have now, usual techno waffle.

This "issue" reminds me of a few companies I have encountered (and worked for) that thought it was quite acceptable for the punters to make up for their own shortcomings......and if the punters are not willing to "co-operate" they are seen as "difficult".

YBW.com do seem to have got the hang of "Pop ups" quite well in recent years (so my blocker indicates!), no need to re-invent the wheel to address this problem at source - but as usual someone has made a £££ decision.......but this does not somehow make it <u>my</u> problem, let alone "fault".

Funnily enough I have noticed the biggest problem is on the MOBO forum, with folk posting 10 versions of the same "here are my holiday snaps" / "look at me" / "look at my big boat" in glorious techicoloured jumbo.

Re: Thumbnail Problems

Lakesailor, clearly you've found a way to have a bit of fun with thumbnails, but I still don't see the problem with them? Got to be better than posting a series of larger images straight on the page? I've read the link and don't quite see your point. Could you elaborate please?

Re: Thumbnail Problems

I don't use photobucket or whatever, so I have to open photoshop and produce a thumbnail, upload it to my server, then write the code to display it as a link to the larger pic (which I have already thoughtfully resized anyway).

Even if you can get auto thumbnails and the code to display it from some photosites there are plenty of people on here who struggle to get a piccy displayed ,don't have a clue how big it is and (as evidenced by the plethora of tags) don't know which bit of code to copy anyway.

The idea of requiring thumbnails for larger pics reduces the immediacy of the forums and I cannot commend it to the House.
