I went back in 2005 for the first time since 1989 and was initially amazed at how much things had appeared to have changed. That Quayside was rough when i was a student there (ask Cutter, he was a year or 5 ahead of me). But then i found that the Crown Posada at the bottom of Dean St. was still serving good beer. And there was still the same problem of how to escape when a fight broke out at the front of the pub, blocking the only exit.
Wandering along the footpath towards Tynemouth, I found that only 2 streets back from all this gentrification, the streets of Wallsend and Walker were exactly the same as they were in the late 70's when I did my community medicine project there, not too much EU money spent there. Crossing the Ouseburn, I saw this traditional boat, with lugsail rig designed, I think, to launch bow first off steep Northumberland beaches like the one at Seahouses. Are they called cobles?
You mean those first pics weren't the Sydney opera house? /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif Not that I've ever been there! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
Just as well there were no points for guessing the location! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
