I have some pictures to upload but I suspect the files are too big at 3Mb each. How can I downsize these to make this happen?

Use a photo editing program, eg Photoshop if you have it.

Never tried it but an on line resizing facility such as Resizr. http://www.resizr.com/

By far the most sensible IMHO is to use Photobucket as a photohosting site for posting pictures on forums etc
You choose the size you require from a range and the pictures automatically resize as they up load to Photobucket. http://s50.photobucket.com/

Get a copy of IrfanView, it's free and available from http://www.irfanview.com/. You can change the physical size and/or the resolution with it, and lots more besides. It's a very handy (and free) tool.
