I know Brendan and the tekkie buffs will know all about this - but the reprographics guys here at the Dream Factory all use this piece of free Google software for organising and fiddling around with images.
I downloaded it last night and it seems great.

I'm using it for two years now, and I'm still finding new features buried in the software. Slick interface, and better documented than expensive software. BTW, I know of one museum which uses the program to document its inventory.
