I've spent a few hours playing with different bits of photo 'album' software, and would be intrigued as to preferences from the assembled body of experience assembled here.

First is Gallery

Second is Photokorn

Who prefers which album format?

I think I prefer the Photokorn, but unless content is identical its difficult to judge

Good point - I had just thought of that. There are a number of similar photos in the Trintella folder of photokorn

Although not replicated in the Gallery format there are some passable photos from the Americas Cup Jubilee in 2001 in the Photokorn gallery - I've got 100's more but dont want to upload to BOTH formats - it's a bit of a pain!

I agree with Jimi, Photokorn seems easier to drive.

BTW, how long can you run your halogen hob on batteries /forums/images/icons/smile.gif?

Regards, Jeff.

Whilst the Photokurn has the more attractive initial appearance, the Gallery version is much easier to use. I like being able to click the image to step up through two image sizes. It is a lot easier than, with Photokurn, having the a fairly small image after the thumbnail, followed by a large download. The zip option is of little use as the file size is not much smaller than the original jpg.

My vote goes to the Gallery, FWIW.

Lovely boat, by the way!

Although Photokorn looks a bit more modern, mainly' cos the Gallery one has a nasty font and a plain vanilla background, I actually preferred the navigation of Gallery - in particular the slideshow which blended nicely and showed things in a large size (though it may be the case that the files haven't been uploaded the same way). Photokorn is laid out a bit like a bulletin board, which looks a bit confusing.

I'm working on a tweak to photokorn to enable the 'third' big image view in a pop up window - I also dislike the download metaphor...

Long enough!

The invertor will power one ring of the hob (or the microwave) together with the kettle for all 'normal' domestic use for at least 24 hours. For choice though you would use meal times as your battery charging time, and avoid the hit of the invertor - but during night watches you can run a 'quiet' boat. Running the electric ceramic heaters off the invertors is not the cleverest option!

There are 1020 AH of 24V batteries aboard ...

Not it isnt - summat up with that link ..

Gallery IS free, Photokorn is $30, so neither are pricey. Gallery has issues with my Windows 2003 server that photokorn doesnt, and O quite like the concept of something that is database driven.

Irfanview looks to be a client side application only - not a web hosting solution, so we are not really comparing like with like. I've got all sorts of apps for managing and manipulating the raw images (many are Nikon .RAW files which dont look to be in Irfanviews remit) - but sharing them with friends and family is something of an issue.

Gallery is much less versatile - it can only handle jpg, whereas photokorn can handle asx, wmv, mpeg, swf,rm,ram as well.

Gallery has some more modern skins, but the look and feel is still less clean than photokorn - but it can link to online printing bureaux.

Tony

I've made some code changes, and BELIEVE you can now click through all the image sizes, rather than downloading. Look at the Quicksilver/Americas cup folder for some BIG files ...

Unfortunately I cant check this out as my home DNS server is misbehaving - but I believe it will work.
