Anybody know an easy way of testing DSC function, the manual says call someone you know with mmsi no. seeing as practically no one on here seems willing to divulge their mmsi no , it would seem my only option would be to call HM coastguard by dsc , would this be acceptable? Really ought to know the blasted things working before entrusting it in an emergency.

I have heard many times on 16 by Holyhead,

Would the station who just called us by DSC please call us on 16.

Don't know if this is just one of the operators or just this coastguard, but to me it appears they prefer to queue up the calls manually via 16. I imagine a nightmare for the Sath coast operators if everyone started DSC for routine calls.

Has anyone heard similar in the Solent or elsewhere?

Heard the same from Liverpool and Belfast

Maybe its just an Irish Sea Disease along with the Irish CRS sending out DSC alerts for a strong wind warning after the voice call! Also a bit fustrating when you end up tuned to Rosslare and you can't hear that channel.
