When it is charging. it does not light up the lamps on the right side. But if I disconnect shore power, so that only inverter is active, lamps are turning on. Anyone else experienced this? Is the unit about to fail?

From my quick look at an operating manual, that is what it is supposed to do. I can't imagine when you would want to be charging the batteries (from shore power or a generator) and taking 230 v AC from the batteries via the inverter at the same time. When you disconnect shore power, it should switch to inverter, thus maintaining your 230 v AC supply, and so that is correct. I note that these things can also boost the incoming supply, if you need to draw more current than shore power can supply, but again in this case it will stop charging the batteries.

Working as intended.

Download the victron toolkit app and it will tell you what the lights meaning is.

Pretty sure that’s how mine works. With the shorepower providing 240v the inverter is off. Kill the shorepower and it starts inverting. To test I suggest you limit the shorepower load to 5A then put the leccy kettle on, the inverter should kick in (lights on) and blend in the balance of 240v supply required. Excellent kit.

If you increase the load beyond the shore power limit the inverter light will flash to show its in power assist mode.

Yess! When charging like this it will just let the 230V shore power passtrough. Only if power need is bigger than what shore power can provide will it start inverting from battery. Given that you have set the paramter for what the limit of the shore supply is.

Wish they still made them that shape - our new Multiplus II is about a metre long!

They do still make the original Multiplus MultiPlus - Victron Energy

For use on a boat, no real benefit in using the II, in fact, the MP might be a better choice, as it's made from aluminium, whereas the II is steel.

The 12v II is 546mm tall, the equivalent MP is 362mm.

Ugh wish I’d looked into that when I bought the II! It was a year or more ago and think I was swayed by some sort of deal/discount. The weight of the thing is something to behold too! Thankfully it just about has a home, positioned rather unceremoniously on its side and taking up an entire locker!
