PHILLM

Great to meet and share some Vin. Free Spirit is a lovely boat. Wishing you fair winds.

I’ve gone up the canal to Caen today. Thinking there may be a weather window to cross back to the Solent Thursday/Friday so I might as well find something new to do while I wait. Meantime, if anyone else is around, give me a shout.

So far so good. Plymouth, Fowey, Plymouth, Dartmouth, Torquay, Studland, Hamble, 2 days at home, then Yarmouth, Cherbourg, St Vaast, Ouistreham and today Caen.

Plan to cross back to the Solent when weather permits. Go home for a couple of days, then head off again, perhaps towards Weymouth.

If you haven't done so already, stop off at the quay just downstream of Pegasus bridge and visit the museum there. It's well worth a stop.

Hi Phil, if you have the opportunity, visit the war museum near caen. Tis a simple bus ride and is certainly worth the effort.
We are now in deauville, a sanitised symbol of decadent capitalism, even a beer in a tabac has just cost me 8€ for 50cl,
Regards to you, bon journee

Thanks for the suggestions. Even though the saintly Mr Tom rather slates Caen as “bombed and rebuilt” I like the place. The castle is nice, museums etc have been more than enough to keep me occupied. A Lidil about 5 mins walk away. Loads of restaurants and bars. Basically it’s a lovely place for a couple of days.

Is that me you are referring to?

I did stop in Caen once in part of the old town where everything had been flattened.
It was rather sad..

Bt looking at the maps there are still lots of the old town left.... we just didn't get to them

I thought Caen a rather beautiful place, it certainly has a story to tell and the bulletmarks are still evident, but like St Malo they did a magnificent job of rebuilding it as was, not ' modernised ' like Plymouth ! :ambivalence:

Sorry mistaken identity, I meant Tom Cunliffe and his Shell Chanel pilot book.

This is the saintly Mr Tom....
