call me a novice. but i need to change the internal battery in my phillips ap navigator gps. but can i find any support from phillips themselves? no. only a premium-rate phone number to ring. anything on the internet about spare parts, or, indeed, the gps unit itself? diddley-squat. anyone know what the part number of the batery is and where i can get one? if anyone from phillips is reading this-bee advised that your customer service sucks.

You don't need to open it up to change the battery - there are two rubber "lids" on the back of the unit - one contains the fuse (1.25A fast-blow 5mm x 20mm) and the other the back-up battery. It is a CR2032 3V which are widely available. If you can get the old one out and the new one in within 50 seconds, you shouldn't lose the contents of the memory. If not - no big deal - it just takes a bit longer to find itself the first time you switch it on again. IMHO they are a great bit of kit - clear big numbers and letters, easy to use, and none of the useless "extras" which make everything much too complicated to use on a cold dark night with numb fingers. PM me if you need more info - I have the user and installation manuals at home.
