I have one of these on my boat and, although old, it has until recently been dependable and was a quality / expensive piece of kit in the day. Hence I would like to keep it operational if possible. Also I have a fully operational spare head unit for it.

It has recently stopped picking up a signal and returns an "Aerial Open" fault. I will (when it stops raining!) try the the obvious and find a break in the aerial lead. However, if this does not solve the problem, do I have to replace the aerial with an AP Navigator like-for-like aerial, or is there a generic aerial that I could use? The aerial looks pretty simple inside, and the aerial lead is a conventional coaxial wire, the same as used on a TV. The aerial connects on the back of the unit via screw terminals and the connections are marked "Ground" and "Earth"

Alternatively, if anyone has one of these / updated their GPS recently and has a spare aerial for sale please let me know.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Is it an AP Mk6? with the main part and separate base plate where the aerial wire is attached? I have one on our boat.

If so, I have an old semi-working unit that I no longer need. I also have an aerial, but.... it fell and got smashed. I have stuck all the bits back together, but it could do with a fibre-glass bandage to keep it together for good. Not pretty, but it works.

If any use, send me a PM - and pay for postage. If it works, a small donation to the RNLI.
