I have a Philips AP Navigator Mk 8 GPS that I would like to use to provide GPS input to a DSC radio. Does anyone have a copy of the technical manual or could tell me which pins to connect to on the 9 pin plug to provide the NMEA link?

Many thanks

Keith

The four gray cables that come out of the 9pin D plug, should have a laminated label on the free end: +/- NMEA IN or, +/- NMEA out. The NMEA out are the ones you need.

Thanks to all for the information. I'll contact MX Marine to see if they can help. The cable markings suggested by Maxi are no real help as I do not have any, just a bare 9 pin D plug, hence my search for the correct pins to provide the MNEA output. I can eliminate pins 5 & 9 as these are used to provide -ve and +ve power connections respectively.

I know it is late, but better late than never.

I have been to the boat today, and picked up the Technical Manual for the Mk8.

So, Pin no. 1 - REF GND. Reference for MOB signal. Connected to navigator shield.
2 - NMEA listener A (input).
3 - NMEA talker A (output).
4 - MOB (Man Overboard) signal.
5 - -ve battery. External power.
6 - Programming voltage. For service use only.
7 - NMEA listener B (input).
8 - NMEA talker B (output).
9 - +ve battery. External power.
Screen - Shield of NMEA talker cable.

If you need a scan copy of this page and/or the drawing, send me a PM with your email address.

Of note is the reference to the fuse size - "......can be any value from 1.25 Amp to 10 Amp" /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

The 1993 manual is actually more informative than most manuals you get with todays' instruments.

This unit is a spare on our boat, and as it is waterproof, it is fitted outside on the aft end of the (motorsailer) cabin, for use when sailing as the main plotter is at the inside nav./steering station.
