Updating the gauges on my Pedro with new VDO instruments for temp, pressure and tachometer. Two helm positions - the original owner has a switch at the lower helm to flip to signal from the senders from the lower helm to the upper helm as required. So going to replace the senders with dual-station senders. Only one problem - I don't know what thread size is used in the Indenor diesel - presuming it's metric as they were built in France as far as I know - but maybe NPT, UNF?

These engines were very popular in the 80's and I'm sure many of them still going strong. Anybody able to help me with the thread sizes please? My engine is the 62hp Indenor but presume all variants have the same size.

I have exactly that engine on my Dutch Barge. Can't answer your question though. I fitted a calorifier recently and the cooling system plugs are BSP!

When I asked for info on the Thames form there weren't very many Indenor engines about. Are they more common on sailing boats? (It's a big old lump so presumably only the bigger boats). It's handy to know who has the same engine as we can share info - the only manual I have is in Dutch.

Euan - thanks for the link. Bookmarked for future reference.

Thanks Euan - the indenor-retro site is great and all there really is on the internet regrading these engines. I emailed Volkmar who is the site administrator earlier this week and he too was unable the confirm the thread sizes. They are not listed in the pdf copy of the operating manual found on the website - perhaps a worksop manual would have them.

Thanks also David - interesting to know that the cooling system plugs fitted BSP. Ultimately, I could purchase metric senders and use an adapter kit - by trial and error - to fit them to the block.

Can anyone advise on an practical way to measure thread sizes in this case - presume using a tap of some sort - could be a messy job just to get the size.

You could try a metric bolt in the hole or a nut on the present sender, or you could take your sender to an engineer to get the thread measured.
I would say its Bsp as they are normally a taper fit and I can't recall there being a metric equivalent.

Unc and Unf are not metric but Unc and 1.5 tpi metric are very close to the same thread but Unc is a more refined thread and less prone to seize up. (progress eh!).

If there is no copper sealing washer its tapered.

Thanks Euan - I'll email Keypart this weekend and report back if they can help.

Ultimately, removing the existing senders and having the threads measured would be the quickest solution but my work has me out of the country until next summer - had hoped to order the senders and get them installed over the winter.

I am going to send Pedro Boat an email too - they might be able to help. Appreciate all the help so far.
