Yes I have the original manual in front of me, section 14 which is on page 18 of my manual states " (d) if a variable speed control is fitted, set the control lever to the half speed position then push down and release the overload stop lever (E).
I have no idea what this step achieves or why it is needed, my overload stop lever is always in the down position anyway. I had always assumed that it maybe popped up when overloaded, hence the need to push it down again. Mine has never moved from the down position, not sure if this is good or bad!
To the OP, the manual suggests using the plunger twice prior to starting in very cold weather. I have a glow plug in the air intake on mine which takes about 20 seconds to heat up.
yes that sounds familiar,the "lever" is a thin rod bent into a circle at the top just big enough to get your middle finger in. mine used to start first time,even in the coldest of weather.
