Haven't posted for a while. Bin busy. But last summer we went to Paris and here are some pictures I hoped you may find interesting.

Twilight at the only free stopping place we found.

Drink driving. I only had the one with lunch, honest !

Stop at Vernonnet. The place to stop to go to Monnets house & garden.

Leaving Vernonnet. We only had about 1.5ft below the props at this stop.

See how slimey the locks are. Yuk !!

Things like these come down the rivers. Actually we were surprised how little traffic there was on the river.

Make sure you have good long lines !!

See how deep the locks are. Going up river you have to nip up the ladders with two ropes over your shoulders then get back down onto the boat before the water starts rising. And they don't hang about !!

Plenty of tide. Get the timing right or you'll use lots more diesel !

Leaving the Seine.

Heading home. After Paris we headed on up to Calais Via Dieppe to meet friends. This was on the way home from Calais just after crossing the TSS. Cruising at 30 knts. Best weather we had !!

As a newbie poster, but long time lurker, I think these pics give me inspiration. I'm very new to boating, having bought my boat at the end of last (crap) summer. I'm looking forward to this spring. I note your bio says Eastbourne. Any hints and tips for a complete novice. Consultation fee paid by way of few beers in Garden Bar!! Anyway, great post, thanks.

Quick advice ? Get some training and then get out as much as you can. Only way to build confidence.
What / where is your boat at Sovereign ? I'll keep an eye out. I'm on berth F33 main harbour. Say hello if you see me. Beers always welcome !

Cracking set of pictures of a very interesting expedition,always fascinating to see a big city from its river.Would certainly like to do that trip.
Some questions,how long did it take you and would you do it again because there was stuff you did not manage to see,or was it just a trip you always wanted to do and that was the end of it?
How did you go about arranging fuel and berthing and how many stops before Paris once you had entered the Seine.

Hi,
You can read the blog but it took 5 days from Eastbourne.
1 day to La Havre. 1 day to Rouen (No real stops in between)
3 days from Rouen to Paris. In the long summer days you could probably do Rouen-Paris in two days without breaking speed limits but going up current you need a boat better suited than Petrolia.

You can do 7.5knts ATG but against the current it's nearer 9knts through the water and at that speed Petrolia drags a small tidal wave.

We did it just for the challenge and the adventure really. If you just wanted to see Paris better catch a plane. Would I do it again ? Probably not but only because you clock up some serious engine hours doing it. We went alone but with friends it would have been brilliant.

There are more places to refuel now than out of date companions suggest. We only re-fuelled once at 1 day up river from Rouen. From there we got to Paris and all the way back plus up to Dieppe with fuel to spare. You use much less fuel coming back down river.

We made two overnight stops between Rouen & Paris.
