Hi all,

Wonder if anyone can help on this...
I've a Shetland Black Prince running AQ200d V.P v8 Petrol (5.0) running a 2 barrel rochester carb.
Cutting a long story short i had alot of trouble after picking up some nasties in my fuel when running in rough weather and the fuel pump giving up the ghost.

Anyway, new fuel pump and flexi-line later and a complete carb strip / clean using a repair kit with new gaskets etc but obviously all carb tuning settings etc are as per before the rebuild (excluding float heights which i set during the rebuild)

Well she clearly needs tuning but my carb tuning skills are pretty limited.
My boat is at Tollesbury in Essex but i'm finding it very difficult to find anyone in that area who can or will help and i'd like to be up and running asap.

any thoughts gang??

thanks,

Nik

There is a Land Rover engineer / garage over there in one of the sheds on the left when driving towards the marina. If anyone can tune a LR V8 with webbers or even worse a twin su's then he is your man! If i come across his number in Land rover owners ill post it for you. rgds

My understanding of carbs is that when running at steady power the float level is about the only variable for mixture as the jets are fixed aperture. Ensure there is no choking from choke plate or even an airfilter.
I don,t know why you think it needs tuning but it may be ignition or timing that is the problem.
If on the other hand it is acceleation or idle that is the problem then it could be idle mixture acceleration pump or again ignition.
As I understand it (and I may be wrong) twin barrel carbs are inheently matched and so simple to adjust. good luck olewill

hi guys,

thanks for the advice.
Have run a tool which shows burn mixture and appears ok. Have cleaned plugs and one had a crack in the insulation which i hadnt noticed before but after a temporary repair appeared to be running ok.

Anyway am going to replace all plugs and leads to be on the safe side (as leads appear to be a mixed set).

Hopefully first run out next week so fingers crossed.

thanks,

Nik
