Petrol Engined Sealine 310 Ambassador

Hi all,

I am interested in feedback from any owners of the above on fuel consumption and range with the twin 205HP Volvo V6 engines.

I have read a number of posts on the evils of petrol boats, don't buy a Sealine etc etc etc but I am only interested in getting more information on what I can expect in terms of running costs for the petrol powered version of this boat or the flybridge statesman version

At a decent cruising speed I would have thought around 10 gal per hour on each engine. By the time you include the slower stuff, you'll probbaly average around 6 or 7 gph per engine.

We have owned a 1989 Sealine 305 fitted with AQ211 petrol engines from new. Whilst these are not exactly the same as the V6 they are both derivatives of the GM small block V8 engines. At about 1200rpm we do 6 knots and use 2.5-3.0 gallons per hour. At 3400rpm we get about 22 knots and use about 15gph. Over about 9000 nautical miles our overall average mpg is 1.65.
Until this year we had experienced no significant failures. As supplied the port engine was fresh water cooled but the starboard engine was raw water cooled. Putting it simply, the starboard engine had corroded internally and filled up with salt water. I fitted a remanufacted engine from Keyparts.
I think that, with the loss of red diesel, petrol engines make a lot of sense. Because these engines are made by GM (and merely painted red by Volvo!) parts and major repairs are much less expensive than the diesel engines made by Volvo and requiring Volvo parts at rip off prices.
