Peters - Opal - what\'s the latest?

It's all gone very quiet on that front - what's the latest?
No news - good news?

A chance for IPC to do some investigative journalism?

PS: Is it OK to call BP a crook yet? (how fast can you pull a thread?) /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Being as he did offer to sell off other assets to try and cover the shortfall, it's early days to be demonising him just yet.

And scientists have discovered a brain inside George Bush

Re: Peters - Opal - what\'s the latest?

It's all in the courts at the moment with various witness statements flying to and fro between the people who have lost money on boats and the KPMG people. Makes for interesting and sobering reading.

no deposit is totally safe. best pay in full when you get the boat - if you can do it that way

Re: Peters - Opal - what\'s the latest?

Deposits can be perfectly safe - ask to have it backed by a bank gurantee.

Very few yards will start production without a deposit. Fine if you buying a mass produced AWB and can get one from stock, but something built for you will require a deposit if not stage payments.

Re: Peters - Opal - what\'s the latest?

Different tack to the other replies. I heard that some manufacturers have sold boats to customers with a discount equal to their lost deposit, on the understanding that they would receive any dividend from the insolvency. Not sure which manufacturers did this, but they deserve praise for doing so. I understand that Bavaria was not one of them.

Does anyone have details on which manufacturers did what?

I don't see any good reason why we can't use the escrow system in the UK..whereby deposit money is held by a mutually agreed third party to see fair play. It costs of course, but a lot less than a lost deposit.
