I have a difficult to clamp or clean, job which needs to be strong.
Has anyone had any luck with conventional glues or sealants on acrylic sheet?
I will order a pack of Tensol 70 if I must but it seems overkill for a small task.

Thanks.

I have used solvent weld glue successfully with perspex. It wasn't a job which required huge strength, but it does seem a strong joint.

One benefit with solvent weld is that you can achieve a very neat joint.

I may go for that .....theoldsalt.... at least it is cheap ;-)
The tricky thing with liquid welding in these situations is getting a close fit and maintaining it for the set, I was half hoping that someone had success with a conventional gap filling adhesive.
But there we go, thanks for all the suggestions

You can get gel superglues although it does still need to be a reasonably close fit.

I used clear silicone sealant adhesive (B&Q £10) to bond my perspex windows to the metal hinge that runs along the top of the vent-type window.

A year later, no issues, and it's incredibly quick and easy to use!

That's interesting No Regrets, I am thinking about giving Stixall a test, it has had some good reports on here.

I shall also be looking out for Hartkunststoff Spezialkleber in Lidl....

I have a damaged countertop display in perspex/acrylic which I tried to repair with superglue. It didn't work.
On seeing this thread I remembered that I have a UHU Hard Plastic Adhesive (labelled Hartkunststoff Spezialkleber !) that I got in Lidl. I intend to try it when I get home. I'll keep you posted.

I think the only really effective glue for Perspex is the two part Tensol glue mentioned in #1. For most purposes a glue containing a solvent for the Perspex is fairly good. That's the origin of the "Perspex swarf dissolved in chloroform" formula that I suggested earlier. I've made that up numerous times in the past .......... but its easy when you are in a Chemistry lab with a supply of chloroform on the shelf.

The UHU might work for " light duty" repairs provided you can remove the failed Superglue.

It worked:)

Well I used Stixall in the end, a hybrid polymer which, unusually, is available in clear. EverBuild tell me it is neutral cure so there should be no adverse reactions.

The job required a watertight and secure bond with some gap filling. As it is on the companionway hatch the security of the lock and washboards depend on it.
The joint looks very solid so far with no hint of movement. We shall see.

I also used it to bed a wooden toerail repair which looks impressively solid as well
