I and a chum are thinking of using a sailing dinghy on the Thames, probably around the Kingston area.

I usually sail on the South Coast and haven't been on the Thames since 1978, can someone advise me of the licences etc required please ?

Strictly sail, no engine.

Thanks in advance,

Andy

You will need a licence from the Environment Agency. The following prices are from their web site at http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/homeandleisure/recreation/129965.aspx

The annual registration for unpowered boats (excluding houseboats) is £32. This covers you for all of our waterways (not just the River Thames). Visitor registrations are also available.
A 31-day registration costs £15.
A one to six-day registration costs £7.50.
Tenders are eligible for a 50 per cent discount when registered at the same time as your main boat. We define a tender as a small boat or dinghy, towed or carried by your main boat.
