Hi, would anyone happen to know anywhere with permanent moorings anywhere between say Pangbourne and Marlow? I'm returning to the Thames after 6 years of being down in Poole and have just sold my boat in situ for ease. I used to be at Val Wyatt in Wargrave which is where I live but know they are full and an epic waiting list. A theme it appears along my stretch of the river! I'm drawing blanks. I'm not overly fussy and don't really need facilities as I can use out of water storage in winter at a yard if need be...not ideal though. 27 foot cabin cruiser which I've just purchased but need to relocate. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

you could try Harleyford, Hobbs of Henley, Tingdene (Thames and Kennet), Hambledon,
no idea of availability though

Thanks , all of the above I've tried and no joy. beginning to think I've got more chance finding gold in the Thames than a mooring lol

Don’t know who owns it but there are some moorings above Whitchurch lock on the right side going upstream.
Also worth asking if Hurley lock has anything available, Steve of SRB moorings below Hambledon, he may know of anything available if not with him. Try the guys at Bisham abbey sailing school, they did have have a mooring available at one time I remember.

If so many boats have quit the Thames, why such a shortage of berths ?
Are they all at the (wrong ) end of the navigation , are the boats there but ashore not going anywhere.
Seems to be persistant theme of folks wanting to quit the Thames , registration /marina expence , discontent with facilities, lack of lockies plus those just considering quitting boating in general.
Are the number of berths available dropping or are the marinas increasing in capacity.
Recent boat buying visits to PH and Harleyford suggests no obvious shortage on empty berths.
With the cost of fuel rising would have thought a migration from coast to non tidal would be on the cards.

Harleyford is full.
They have reduced capacity as the new owner of the manor has bought out the frontage, and berths are no longer available to rent.

Since Covid berths are, as you say, like unicorn droppings.
Try a classified advert in the local press - Henley Standard/Maidenhead Advertiser/Bucks Free Press, but don't hold your breath.

Well it looks like I have found one!! Crossing everything! I’ll divulge once I’ve signed the contract and paid. Thank you all for your responses

Someone mentioned this the other day and I called BS having worked at Harleyford in the 90s.

I can’t believe the Folleys (sp) would allow that ? I thought the Manor House was rented office ?

The moorings just below the weir are now empty.

There is a nice little house there, possibly the original folly. I wonder if occasional use of this as a retreat is the reason for clearing the moorings. Quite a nice spot actually which looks a lot better without a load of white GRP about !

The frontage on the River between the two locks still has a lot of boats moored.

And the sat view shows there is nothing outside the manor itself other than a Riva type speedboat. All jetties empty on this the latesScreenshot_2022-04-09-19-14-18-185_com.google.android.apps.maps.jpgt Google sat map.

Plenty of moorings at Penton Hook marina as they have kicked off River Scape and moved Le Boat so a lot of regular boaters chose to leave too.

X pontoon is pretty empty at the moment!

Who are river scape? Guessing they are some sort of Air BNB as someone asked us for directions for a boat to stay on and I think it was them. Think a big old fibreglass cruiser they own is on the hard, intriguing looking motor yacht.

Not sure why others would leave too? Saw they have moved Le Boat round the corner.

People left as their mooring was taken away and given to Le Boat so they didn't have much choice. River scape did a roaring trade in party boats and floating hot tubs so you can imagine the type of clients they had.

Thanks TT. Yep, don’t think I’d want to more next to the party hot tub boat!
