Does anyone have any experience of mooring your yacht in a French marina ?
Are there any regulations that come in to play if you stay over a certain time etc.

Having crossed the channel to Cherbourg last month I was amazed to find that the cost of an annual mooring in Chanteryne was only £1036 inc electricity !! Thats a saving of £1600 on my current mooring at Brighton - thats certainly a lot of foot passenger fares and wine and food for a year.

Your thoughts and experiences would be much appreciated.

Shhhh, don't tell every bogger...

If you stay more than 6 months, you have to sort out a 'passport' for the boat with the customs, and you pay the same annual tax as a French boat owner...

But keep it to yersel', it's already crowded over here...

Brian.

Yes I have a permanent mooring in the south of France in Port napoleon.
Not the most salubrious of marinas but good fun & very cheap.

No problems with docs if you are UK reg. You do need all the normal docs - Registration part 1 or SSR, Vat paid, VHF, Insurance, Try & get your Vat & Reg. translated into French. & if you are doing the canal's you will need a CEVNI & it is always handy to have a ICC, although the latter is not really necessary in France.

I am also sure that the insurance in Spain has to have an endorsment in Spanish.
Michael E - a member on here is a good source of information as well.

good luck

enjoy.

I am keeping mine in Calais, seems to be no problems at all. Less that £500 a year including Elec and Water.
Fery fare £38 return for car and 5 passangers. (booked in advance 10 trips)

Hi I have kept my Westerly Griffon 26ft in Cherbourg since last October, cost for 7 winter months £450.00 with free electric. There are no regulations that I know of,in October last year I put my name down on their waiting list for a permanent berth I was no 146 then, now it is down to 74 so going down quickly.Last December i bought from Speed Ferries 10 trips(car + up to 5 passengers) for £190.00,£19.00 each way Dover to Boulogne.I will be moving in 2 weeks but I will be back to Cherbourg for the winter months.Flights to Cherbourg from Southampton with FLYBE.COM £23.00 each way plus taxes.I have sailed into 98 british ports & marinas but after sailing down the French coast last year I will not be bringing my boat back to England it is too expensive .
paying visitor rates in France is still much cheaper per annum than keeping the boat in an English marina.
