Hi all, this question may have been asked but i would appreciate any answers.
I am preparing to leave my present address in a rented property and buy and live aboard a yacht moored somewhere in the uk for starters.
What do i do about my address for purposes such as driving license, correspondence, bank account, internet, e-bay purchases etc.
Can i really have an address "c/o Yacht XYZ, england" under the present requirement for everyone to have a known address, wherever i have moored for the night.

If you are going to live in a marina, that will be acceptable as an address and you can change all your existing bank accounts, CCs, car details and insurance etc to "YourName, Your Boat, XXX marina etc etc." Once that is done and you have been there for a while you will then have a history so you can apply for other things if you need to.
If you intend moving around a lot you will have to use a friendly relatives address, I guess.

Just my experience -

Having lived aboard in the UK for eight years now, we just used Yachtname, Marina Name, Marina Address - simple really.

The main problem was getting things like car insurance where they needed to trace your address using a postcode database. If your boat address is not linked to a postcode, they can't cope. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

So we asked the post office to create our address as an extra address on one of the postcode lists and the problem was solved. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

However, having now sold the boat, I can't be bothered to go through the procedure again so I'll leave the address as the old boat name. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Hope that helps.

If you are going to stay most of the time in a certain marina then as the others say the way forward is to to use that marina's address for everything - will not be a problem.

If you intend moving about - going places then really the answer is to find a relative or good friend who's address you can use - get them to open your post and email/call you if anything important comes in and then forward the letters to you. You do not want all the junk mail forwarded....

It is going to cost them and be a pain to do... I used to provide envelopes with my name and boats name leaving the rest of the address for them to fill in and I would make certain I gave more than enough for postage and phone calls.... There are commercial services which do this but you cannot always use their address for banks, IR etc and they cost much more.
