Merry Xmas Everyone
Am thinking of mooring yatch on the Cotê Vermille, somewhere between Banyul and Port-La-Nouvelle. If anyone has any info. on costs of moorings, waiting time etc. I would be very grateful to hear from them.
Merci, A Bientot

For info the Cote Vermielle stops at Argelés, where I currently have my boat.

First the bad news - the waiting list in all the ports is between 2-5 years and you're unlikely to find more than a temporary mooring.

The good news is that there is a projected 500 berth extension at St Cyprien planned for next year and you might have a chance of getting on the wait list if you apply now.

The cost of a annual berth for 2002 (it's due to go up in January) is €1500 - €2000 a year in the Roussillon ports.

I would suggest applying now, IN FRENCH, to the following in this order:

1. St Cyprien
2. Canet-Port
3. Port Leucate (the windiest place in France)
4. Port-Argelés

If you like to e-mail me via this board, I'm back in Argelés about 8th Jan and will be prepared to make enquiries for you.
One or two of the little marinas up the etangs will have space but you need to be very shallow draft and small to get into them - so an idea of boat-size would make it easier to give you relevant information.

Hi, again Charles
Info. as promised, am between boats at the moment, since leaving England to live in France. Currently selling our place in the Loire and plan to move to coastal Herault, finding a yatch in the process. Don't want to buy one yet in case sale takes longer than anticipated and I finish up still living here with something moored 7hrs. away. I don't think that I will buy anything less than 34ft. so the shallow etangs are probably out.
Hope this helps, look forward to hearing from you.
P.S
What's the situation at Port Vendre, Seemed a few empty moorings on the two occasions I have payed a flying visit

not sure, but most french and spanish marinas sell off as many as 80% or more placs on long leases, so in aplyuing to the caitainerie, you are queing for 20% ofthe places.

The other places are owned by owner-ocupiers, brokes (who can't sell boats f they have no berths) and investors.

If between boats, I stronly rec'd loking at boats located in these marinas. Beter after sales and you an set a place in the marinas as a condition of sale.

Note- it ain't like the uk - if they like they can ask you to move on nex year - there's no automatic renewal and moaning rights like in the UK. They will do this sooner or latr - when they have another boat to sell - so consider trying to buy a long-temr lease??

Hi brianp

I have a 10.5m boat moored in Languedoc.

You need to research Bloc Marine almanac and cruising guide (partly in English) for locations, facilities and prices of 284 French ports. They have a web site here : http://www.blocmarine.com/ They also have useful info on other Med Ports. I've got a 2003 copy if you need specific info.

Problem is ......... Annual prices are hypothetical in most Med Ports.

Too many bloody boats !

The most convenient to big towns (and therefore transport), closest to the sea, deepest, best facilitised, ports cost most. And, of course, there are no undiscovered mud berths here !

So ..................... How do you get a mooring ?

1) Put your name on the list, and wait 2,3,4,5 years
2)Buy from a broker with maybe 12 months guaranteed moorings
3)Buy privately from a "retiring" sailor with mooring ........ that's what I did
4)Compromise and search the less desirable locations
5)Rent a weekly, monthly, 6 monthly mooring with some chance of climbing the ladder
6)Buy a mooring with, or without, the accompanying appartment

I know people who've found places by simply searching. There are places at Port Napoleon which is within easy reach of Nimes and Ryanair ( 10m = Euro 2820 / annum).

Today the price for a 10m annual berth in reach of my area (Languedoc)varies from Euro 675 (Gruissan Barberousse) to Euro 2820 (Port Napoleon).
