My Perkins Prima 50 (circa 1989) is, I believe, a marinised version of the 2 litre diesel used in Montegos, Maestros and assorted commercial vehicles. Can anyone tell me if the same oil and fuel filters are are used, or if I must buy Perkins parts, and why?

Thanks in anticipation of the usual deluge of sound advice!

Almost certainly the same filters are used - try your local car accessory shop. If in doubt, get some filters from www.asap-supplies.com (Fram or Purolator) and after that get them from your local shop once you have the part no's.

dickh
I'd rather be sailing... :-)

Oil filter is definitely the same as Montego etc but I am not sure about the fuel filter as I haven't changed that yet.... However I have been told that it is worth getting a good one as some of the cheapies may not be quite such a fine filter......

Never mind the local part shop, go to a motor factors such as
"Partco" who wholesaaale parts for many engines. U can buy oil fuel & air filters att low cost for many marine "base" engines.

eg oil filter for my Kubota is about £13 frrom Beta marine,
£3.50 from another source........
