I have this Perkins engine which was running well in a canal boat and was removed as owner wanted a much bigger engine. It was keel cooled and does not have any tubes in the heat exchanger. The water was circulated by the integral engine pump. Where can I get the tubes for the engine and the modified rubber caps which go on the heat exchanger? Any suggestions on a raw water pump....could I use an electric pump? The engine is going in a Freeman 22 river boat. Thanks. Paul

I would not bother. A keel cooled engine is raw water cooled, and canal water is less corrosive than sea water. My keel cooled Perkins is 26 years old and has been in sea water and shows no signs of corrosion. By the time you have spent £500 on a Bowman heat exchanger, £150 on a direct driven Jabsco pump , and another £100 on a new exhaust elbow, you will be no better off!. Not worth fixing what aint broke

Thanks for the reply. Do you only have the integral water pump on your engine? Is the radiator cap (similar to ones on older cars) the highest water point on your engine or do you have an anti-syphon valve at a higher level? Is your exhaust a dry one ie. not water cooled? I want to install the engine at the least cost for a system that works well. If your engine is a Perama do you have an electric stop and if so does it mean you can just turn the key off just as on a diesel car?
The Perkins workshop manual does not give much assistance. Thanks. paul
