Hi,

I am hoping someone may know these great old engines well enough to help - I have an Ocean 37 with two in, one contra rotating. Their serial numbers are 354U2476HT and 354UX2357HT

I'm trying to clear up a mystery! The contra engine has an extra oil cooler - it seems to have been there for a very long time and may be original. I think the serial numbers are close enough that the engines have not been changed but can't work out why one would have an extra cooler?

One may be a little more inclined than the other I think, but I am not sure again why this would be? The boat is an early version from 1970.

Can I also tell from the serial number when they were made?

Maybe the other engine is missing a cooler!

I don't know the answer, but when I gave up with 6.354 and re-powered with M265Ti, I sold off some 6.354 bits I had to a David Harrison who was the tech helpline for the Broom Owners Club, he knows the 6.354 very well and I think was instrumental in getting some no longer made parts back in production, he might be able to answer your question if he is still around.

Fairey and Broom clubs used to have a cricket match once a year.
