Just removed the header tank from my donor engine. The temperature valve is totally gummed up with all sorts of crud and has clearly not been functioning! I will remove, clean and test though I suspect it is beyond help! Can anyone inform me as to what the temperature of a new valve should open at?
I note that the engine on board runs at 70 degrees at our 2000rpm cruising speed, does this indicate that the valve there needs replacing as I would think that it should go to at least 80 before opening.
At least I know what has to be taken off to get at the valve.
My work on the engine rebuild has been worthwhile even just as a practical way to learn more about working on these engines and the tools and tricks required!
I really value all the advice garnered along the way.
