There was a posting on on-board tools some time ago, but I need some more detailed information. Could someone inform me about the sizes of the nuts and bolts on this engine? My toolkit is metric as I had a Yanmar YSB12 till now and I don't expect the Perkins to be happy with metric tools.

Well if thats right they are very big engines - size correct, but should be AF - ever seen a 9/16 BSW spanner? Plumbers might use them.

With a bit of luck you will be OK 7/16 is nearly 11mm 1/2" 13mm 9/16 about 14mm & 5/8 about 15mm -all depending upon poor tolerances on the spanners and nuts. Just do not round the nuts off.

Best idea is to visit a boot sale or boat jumble. Try to get a set of AF spanners from 3/8 to 7/16 or 1"

TheoSr,
Assuming you do not have a manual for your engine. Believe they might still be available from Perkins. Try Dave Cumbridge at Perkins, 01733 583000.
Failing that could do you a photo copy for a beer.

Thanks, but I do have a manual, one in English and one in Dutch, neither gives specs for spanners. But the earlier info was sufficient.
Whenever you are in the Netherlands drop in for a beer anyway.
Theo.

No, you're right, neither the handbook nor the manual say.

I pulled mine completely apart last winter. As I recall, the spanners needed were AF 7/16", 1/2", 5/8", 3/4". The great majority of bolts are 1/2" - two spanners this size may be useful. P.S. A 13mm fits approximately but best avoided. Use rings rather than open-jawed wherever practicable.
