I have a complete (almost) set of seals for my rebuild(s) Only missing bits seem to be the cork inserts that fit in a groove under the Crankshaft bearing.
Has anyone any advice regarding buying one off bits or making my own in cork if I can get the measurements.
It seems a shame to buy two ( more!) kits for these little cork strips!

Thanks for the link! I will try to measure the thickness using the old seal but at that joint the seal which fits into a grove gets compressed into a sort of U shape by the sump which has a narrow rather than flat edge at that point.

I take it what you need are parts #27 in this diagram below

I think in view of the nuisance home made seals will be if they don't fit exactly right and leak I would buy two new sump gasket kits although in theory they ought to avaialble on their own

My only experience of cork gaskets is on BMC A series rocker covers. They always seemed to leak whatever I did. I think cork was used on the bottom end as well but I never dismantled that.
Good luck.

Vic's a wizz at locating diagrams and instructions. The thing that strikes me is that the end gaskets seem to balance on a knife edge - it mustn't be as difficult as it looks.

No
They fit into grooves on the bearing caps and they trap the ends of the sump gasket halves. Its important to get them fitted so as not to leave a gap for oil to leak out through

See "To refit the sump" in section L of the workshop manual http://www.atlantisbolivia.org/p1983uk.pdf
