I've just had the clutch replaced in my Bukh saildrive attached to a perkins 4108 engine. When doing this job, the coupling between the engine and gearbox has been noticed as being on its last legs and in fact, not fit to be used again and it has to be replaced.
Bukh have sent a part that they believe was the replacement but it doesn't fit. They don't have any alternatives. Golden Arrow marine have been contacted but as yet, no joy. Perkins in manchester are looking through their archives for a part number or alternative coupling.
Does anyone have any suggestions where I can get one of these couplings?

I am not familiar with the Bukh saildrive so the following might be irrelevent. However, if it is like the Volvo the gearbox input shaft end has splines which mate with a splined hole on a drive plate bolted to the engine flywheel. The Volvo 2000 series has a known problem with these splines fretting until they eventually shear off. Volvo make a replacement drive plate with elastic inserts (as fitted in the last year or two's production run of 2000s) which should prevent further deterioration if they're not too bad. If they are, an independent engineering company (sorry, can't remember the name, but a search should unearth it) will take the input shaft, machine the end to a hex and supply a replacement drive plate with a hex hole.

You might try Diperk at Peterborough. They deal with Perkins 4108 engines, and were most helpful when I got stuck. Phone 0800 0730424, or Google them.
