I have been looking at 24ft fibreglass mobo with a very rusty perkins 4107 no sea test is possible but I rather fancy top speed would be a plodding 6 knots...I will have to spend some cash on the aging perkins lump and I rather fancy upping the hp to 100hp with a more modern engine.....long winded statement quick question which diesel engine should I replace it with???

If it is a displacement hull 100hp is a complete waste. Hull speed will be about 7.5 knots and something like 45-50hp will be tops A Beta 43 will be a good start but you will need deep pockets as you will need essentially to start from scratch with almost everything new apart maybe for the fuel tank and possibly engine controls. new prop, exhaust, probably shaft unless it is already big enough and in good nick. There are usually good used engines which will likely be about half the price, but will still need all the other new bits.

Have a look here marineenterprisesltd.co.uk there are several suitable engines including a Beta 50, Nanni 50, Volvo MD22, Thorneycroft 50
