Perkins 4.236

I have a Perkins 4.236 Engine that has been lying in my shed for some years unused

I found that I could not turn the engine over by hand even using a 4 ft lever

On stripping it down the piston rings are stuck in the piston ring groves and the main and big end shells have no wear but it has what looks like congealed oil stuck in to the white metal. No copper is showing so very little if any ware can be seen and no scoring on the shes or on the crank journals

Any one have a cunning way to clean the congealed oil from the shells and from the piston ring to free them.

I am reluctant to use emery cloth on the shells r to hammer the piston rings

A youtube test says that a mix of ATF and acetone is the best freeing agent. WD40 nowhere in the running.
How about Mr Muscle? More for dried on soot that one.
Boil them? Bit of vinegar? Coca cola?

3m scouring pad -fine grade for the bearings - soak in solvent/thinners/carb cleaner for the rings then fine wet & dry on a flat suface
