I have recently bought a Nicholson 26 fitted with a Perkins 100-2 engine. This is my first proper boat and with winter coming up I wish to drain and replace the coolant. I am guessing that pink/red OAT coolant will be the stuff I am after. But any advice from the forum? I have allways serviced and maintained my own cars and would describe myself as a competant diy mechanic.

You really should check with the engine manufacturer's recommendations although generally as I am sure you know older engines use the conventional low silicate type of antifreeze while more recent ( mid 1990s onwards) use OAT antifreeze.

Occasionally cavitation erosion of cylinder liners with conventional antifreeze is an issue and OAT antifreeze is specified when you might think conventional antifreeze would be more likely. Unless this applies to the Perkins I'd have thought low silicate type would be called for

Other factors such as the materials used for radiators have to be considered with vehicles

EDIT Manual I found online says BS6850 antifreeze ... thats conventional silicate type!
