Good on you. I have fond memories of building one of these with my father when I was 11.

Sorry - can't help with the plans though.

My Dad built one for me when I was about 10. He ordered the wood from the local yard and when he went for it the sawman had used the wrong wood - some very expensive teak got in specially for a job! Caused a bit of a fuss when the boss saw it.
My kayak had a strong frame though!
Does anything here help http://www.mediafire.com/?jwwz19dldjm (it's a big pdf to downlaod) and http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=42265674352
Tried Amazon for books?

In the book Boat Building by him there are plans and instructions for a single and two seater canoe. I have a old copy which I can scan for you, if you have no luck elsewhere. Let me know which one you are interested in.

Thanks for your quick response chaps . Was hoping to buy a complete set of full size frame plans I have some old PB books somewhere. will trying to dig em out.

I happen to know there is a PBK 15 s/seater & a PBK 20 double in Hereford. The 15 has never been more tham a frame & the 20 is allegedly stripped for recovering. PM me your details if you want to measure them & I will pass the info onto the guy who is "allegedly" recovering them for me.

Excellent touring boats, but not good with barnacles or sharp rocks!

What you want - trust me - is the truly excellent "How to Build and Manage a Canoe" published by Brown, Son and Ferguson. It was written in 1949 and they are currently selling the 1975 edition. You need both volumes: the first is the text and covers everything from building a canoe to cooking while on an expedition and the second is a matching folder of full-size plans. They are ludicrously cheap: both volumes together will cost you £11.03. In total. Including postage.

Plans for Percy Blandford kayaks and dinghies (along with lots of other interesting boats) are available from www.clarkcraft.com in the USA. I was delighted to find that, as I used to have a Gremlin my father built.

The plans for Percy Blandford's folding dinghy are also on the site, priced USD 30.

freebie plans:-

and a pdf for you:-

Best of luck; it sounds just the right thing to do with a youngster (and then there's your grandson, too !)

EDIT 1
oooops ! More info here. The chap uses PVC, which is quite an attractive idea:-

EDIT 2

there's even a Folding canoe forum !

They sound like a good starting point for some plans.

Hi, if your offer to scan the Percy Blandford book is still open I would be really interested especially if it has a formulae for proofing the canvas. I am just restoring, what I think is, a Kittiwake but have no idea how to proof!
