Work took me to Surrey today so I nipped in to the Chandlery at Chertsy for a few bits. Speaking as a man with a 16' cruiser on a farmer's field mooring I can only keep saying wow!

That slobbery stuff from the perimeter road onwards is my jealous dribble :-)

I'm not certain I'd swop my bit of heaven for one of those fantastic boats and a mooring at Penton Hook though. For a start I bet I get better star gazing at Lechlade. But if I win the, (big), lottery I might well go for both!

Any of you Surrey guys up for a two week summer boat swop? Due to my superior night sky I can't discuss this with owners of boats smaller than 40'. Also note that I'd empty my toilet and fill my fuel tank and you would be expected to do the same.

And I have it on good authority that a lot of it hardly ever moves .

Speaking of the chandlery, is any of the stuff marked up with a price or do you have to ask everytime you want to know how much something is?

Re prices - I bought:

Battery box - price on

Metal ventilation plate - price on

Nice brassy 'signs' for battey off and fuel off - price on but behind the counter and too far away to read.

Thank god they don't move very often, otherwise we would have a watery M25 complete with belching black fumes !!!!

Next time - try Midland Chandlers - (by post) you might be surprised...

Yes , support your local-ish chandlers !

Too many have been put out of business by internet based ones.

It's very hard to compete with someone selling stuff out of their garage / a little warehouse with no overheads , no staff , no insurance etc.

But the people in the shop were pleasant and helpful. Plus I could see and handle the potential purchases. I don't mind paying a bit more for that.

Steve and Sharon are also incredibly knowledgable about all things boat-wise. I've used them for years and they've saved me money many times. People like that need to be kept in business - they're worth their weight in gold.
