Hello,

On my annual foray in to your forum planning my annual thames trip.

One simple question I would like to ask.

On an out and back trip from Penton Hook would you go left or right?

I am seeking peace and tranquility but a nice pub with a kids menu.

Thanks in advance for any tips and especially to Richard S who has been a great help already.

Peter.

Hang a right to Teddington, and Hampton court, where the moorings are free, and the bankside views better than a free mooring would suggest!

If you want a big day out, turn left by all means!

You can't go wrong either way....

I moor at PH and sorry to disagree with others, but would say right every time. Various riverside PHs down to Hampton Court and if you are lucky, excellent and free moorings at Hampton Court. HC and back a good days sail! Enjoy.

Today Tedders, tomorrow St Kats!

Worked for me*

Very true, being just slightly biased, I think our stretch of the river down to Kingston has a cracking selection of pubs and free moorings, so for a weekend a way hard to beat for anyone travelling down from PH way.

Right for pubs and waving to Doolittle, left for less pubs (there is only The Swan in Staines or the Old Windsor harvester, accessed by crossing the road (having left the boat tied up)) but more waving /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Folks turning right from PH can get peace and tranquillity and an infeasibly large number of eateries (after they've run the gauntlet of my son firing water bombs at the largest and shiniest boats ;o) ). Possibly the quietest stopping place is at the top of Desborough Island.

... or your place when you are out in the canoes /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Ha ha, so I don't need to tell you about the bar and fridge in the Summer house then, because you've probably already found it!

...Note to self: Padlocks! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

If you turn right , you might get to meet me !

Well that is a good enough reason to turn right in itself!

Thanks to everyone for the advice. Given the higher density of pubs perhaps right it is.
