Hi There,

We are looking at a swinging mooring. The owner say's we need to supply a pendant and support buoy. I take it this is the warp and small buoy that you pick up ? or am I wrong.

Thanks in advance

The support buoy is the big one that holds up the weight of the mooring riser chain - mine is about 2 ft diameter. The pendant is the rope or chain that goes up to the bow of the boat. I currently use 9.5mm chain for the pendant, though I have in the past used two eye-spliced lengths of 25mm nylon rope.

Usually you put another line on the boat end of the pendant with a small pickup buoy attached - usually a little buoy with a handle moulded in about six-8 inches in diameter. This line and buoy is just to let you pick up the pendant easily .

If the support buoy is one with a very strong metal fitting right through and a ring at the top the pendant is sometimes attached to the top ring, otherwise it is attached to the chain under the buoy. There are lots of minor variations - look at what others are doing on neighbouring moorings, and ask the mooring provider.
