I bought the Pela Pro14 oil extractor last year, used it once to drain the oil from my Cat engines, emptied the oil from it, gave it half hearted rinse out with warm water, and havent tried using it again until today (its been sat in the engine room, unused for almost a year).
On a 23 degree heat day, I had the lovely task of dealing with a blocked head, I tried putting boiling water down the Jabsco to dissolve the blockage a couple of days ago but it hadnt worked and the bowl was full of water. So i tried using the Pela extractor to empty the now cool water. Its nigh on impossible to pressurise the oil extractor, the handle takes a lot of force to push it down (but it does still move the full motion from top to bottom, becoming extremely difficult once near to the bottom). Even with no extractor tube attached and the emptying cap removed it feels like it fully pressurised even though no vacuum exists in the container with the cap off.
I just about managed to create enough vacuum to empty the water, but its nigh on useless.
Even if i hold the pressure release button in, its still just as difficult to depress the pump handle down. It feels like there is a blockage somewhere.
Ive tried filling the Pela with hot water in the hope of clearing what ever could be blocking it but its made no difference. Ive unscrewed the vacuum tube/mechanism from the container but there seems no way to dismantle it any further.
As far as i can see the only opening in to vacuum tube is at the very top, near the handle end. There is a small white plastic bottle that can move up and down, presumably some sort of valve? This still moves freely.
Do i try squirting WD40 in the valve and hope for the best?
Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated please?
(on a positive note, having completely stripped down the toilet and pipework, the blockage was just salt water crystallisation, hot water, reaming and a thorough clean has got it working perfectly again).
