Has anyone tried this stripping system for antifoul? I read the PBO article but there was no indication as to how much was required for a given size of boat. So I messaged PBO with the question, twice, and also messaged Bainbridge Marine (twice) but no-one seems to want to talk to me. I was quite surprised as PBO are usually very quick to reply and Bainbridge must want to sell the stuff, no? Anyway; rant over. If anyone has used this system and can advise on what area they stripped and approx how many coats or how many years worth of antifoul was removed, I would be grateful. Cheers.

A Barrettine product.

Coverage is stated to be up to 1m² per litre . 1 to 2 coats required

They do 150g sample pots so might be a good idea to try a sample pot before committing to buying enough to do the whole boat. It should also indicate whether or not you will need enough for 2 coats

Active ingredient is benzyl alcohol so expect it to be comparable with other benzyl alcohol based paint strippers

They also do Peelaway Marine, specifically for antifouling removal. I wonder why BPO did not test that ......... PBO for you I guess!

VicS.... thank you so much. I was beginning to think that I had gone invisible. I may have made a mistake; The PBO article did test Peelaway Marine, which I though was '7'. My apologies to you and to PBO if I got that wrong. BTW.... what is BPO? Cheers.

So.... having replied to VicS, I realise that I have been talking out of my rear end. The stripper that I am interested in is Peelaway Marine. I have therefore decided to start a new thread with the correct information.

I managed to get a sample from a contact at Bainbridge which I intend to try either in the next month or next October.

I'll report back when I have some result...

I'll also forward a link to to this thread to my contact at Bainbridge as I am sure they would be concerned that you did not get a response.
Andrew

Thanks Andrew. I don't want to start a witch hunt or get anyone fired, so please go carefully. VicS has pointed out some valuable information on the Bainbridge web site. I will follow up on this. If I am going to do this, then it will be in the Spring this year so will feed back any news your way as well. Cheers, Martyn.
