Pedro 30 Battery Master Swirch

Hi, I’ve just brought a Pedro 30 based on the Thames. The boat came with a wad of manuals including the original from the factory.

The boat has a charger fitted and I’m a little confused by the factory instructions for battery charging. It says the isolator switch must be set to No2 (domestic supply) in order to charge the batteries.

My question is, will this charge No1 battery as well? I would have thought that setting the switch to No2 would isolate No1.

Yes your right, those old style switches usually have 1, 2, Both, positions.

Is it possible that whoever wired up the charger arranged it so that it only charged the No2 (presumably domestic?) battery, and relied on the engine to charge the No 1 battery?

Need to investigate the wiring and see exactly what are the connections.

Have you got a multimeter or one of those battery testers(the ones with an led to indicate charging)?
If you have, pop it on each battery in turn and move the switch around to see what's doing what.
Just make sure you never move the switch to the OFF position while the engine is running.

Without knowing how the connections from alternator and shore charger are wired up its not possible to answer this question.

The instructions I refer to are from the factory and apply to shore power charging.
I shall have a poke around with a multimeter, I was hoping another Pedro owner might be able to save me the bother.

Trouble is that the wiring on boats is so often changed by owners that it often bears little or no resemblance to the original wiring as supplied by the manufacturer. Only real way to sort things out is to check what is actually there now.

I have a Pedro30 and have been trying to get manuals and wiring diagrams for ages. Any chance of getting copies? Willing to reimburse. Rgds Geoff

Hello Geoff.
I’ve had my boat for just over a year now and slowly worked it all out.

My wad of manuals comprises of a typed general operating instruction sheet from the factory - things like shut the seacocks when leaving the boat, and some out of date electrical info - out of date because the battery master switches and charging system have been changed.

The rest of the manuals are for individual pieces of equipment on board such as, fridge, cooker, loo, etc etc.
No wiring diagram I’m afraid, but I do have a factory list of fuses, although these may well differ from boat to boat.

I’ve looked at a few Pedro 30s and they are all very different. Mine is hull number 1059.
Where are you based? I’m in Penton Hook.
